# Why VARĀHĪ?

Modern forecasting generally treats time as a neutral coordinate on which events occur. The Indian natural-time tradition often treats time as structured, qualitative and developmental. A season may be conceived, activated, stabilised, interrupted and brought to fruition.

VARĀHĪ asks whether these older temporal structures can be reconstructed computationally and examined against observed evidence without inventing rules or fitting them retrospectively to the desired result.

The successful computational reconstruction of this system demonstrates the sophistication of the calendrical and astronomical knowledge on which it rests. Its internal coherence, reproducibility and ability to generate testable seasonal structures suggest a highly developed understanding of time, celestial cycles and natural processes.
